About us

We pursue system change through cultural change, and cultural change through narrative change.

The Idea

Everything we believe about the world, about others, even about ourselves, is a story — a narrative shaped by the cultures around us. These narratives are not fixed. They can and do change. But changing them takes more than facts alone. It takes functioning alternatives, critical thinking, and the courage to examine both the systems around us and the histories within us.

The Approach

We produce content that challenges the prevailing narratives about how our societies have to function, and we share the stories of the people actively building, maintaining and nurturing functioning alternatives — ones that create more sustainable and egalitarian systems, communities and businesses.

For the Curious

Changing the Narrative (CTN) is an independent media platform. We exist for people who are curious about how our societies, cultures and systems really work — and who suspect that much of what we’re told doesn’t hold up to scrutiny.

There are solutions where we’re told there are none.

Community matters in a culture that rewards individualism.

Activism is possible where we’re encouraged to feel helpless.

What we Do

We produce original content

We produce original content — podcasts, articles, and photo stories — that reframes rather than simply debunks. We’d rather show how an alternative model works than only criticise the conventional one. And we create content to change minds, not to preach to the converted: we prioritise persuasion over advocacy, meeting people where they are and building the case for alternatives through evidence, storytelling and lived experience.

We will also soon be running live events — interviews and discussions — to foster the kind of open, critical conversation that real narrative change depends on.
